Nominations due for International Women’s Day at UNC Charlotte

Submit your nomination for International Women’s Day, March 20th for a member of the Charlotte community who identifies as a woman and who made a positive contribution to global efforts. Self-nominations are also welcome!

Dr. Michelle Meggs, executive director of Women + Girls Research Alliance, will be part of a discussion panel to addressing the challenges faced by working women in construction in North Carolina, which ranks lowest in the country for working conditions for women. This event is a call to action for all stakeholders to come together and forge a path toward better support and policies for maternity leave and beyond. Explore actionable strategies and the pivotal role of healthcare advocacy in shaping a supportive environment for working women. This discussion will cover a broad spectrum of issues from crafting effective maternity leave plans to integrating considerations for adoption and elder care.
Each March, the Office of International Programs in collaboration with the Office of Identity, Equity and Engagement and other departments, encourages members of the UNC Charlotte campus community to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD). The event will include a presentation by the Charlotteans, recognition of UNC Charlotte women who work for gender equity and/or international engagement as well as the main speaker to be honored this year, Sil Ganzo, Founder and Executive Director of OurBRIDGE, a not for profit that focuses on after school tutoring for immigrant and refugee students,The event will be followed by a reception. The Women's & Gender Studies Program celebrates its 40th Anniversary with the following free and public events. WeMove Feminist Event: Reflecting Back and Reaching Forward: Student and Alumni WGST 40th Anniversary Roundtable, 4 pm to 5:30 pm; Reflection, Resilience, and Restoration: Women's and Gender Studies Program Leaders and Alumni Speak to Forty Years of Intellectual Engagement and Student Empowerment, 6 pm to 8 pm; Reception - 8 to 9 pm.
